Silver and Gold Filigree "Telkari"
The main
sector in arts and craft is silver and gold filigree production. Telkari is the
work of art with its elegance and different design in Beypazari. People in
Beypazari have accepted this art as their business and developed it in time.
Eventhough there are neither silver nor gold mines in Beypazari, Telkari
production was made with the silver and gold brought from different locations
which were connected to each other by Silk Road.
Gold and silver bullions are being melted and formed into thin wires in Beypazari. These wires are then formed into earings, rings, necklaces, bracelets and many other items by the craftsmen. The technic, used during the production is called the Telkari technic. The value of the jewellery depends on the thinness of the wires used in it. The symbol of Telkari is Tılsım; people who carry Tilsim, believe that it protects human from negative energy and brings luck.
Today, Telkari shops are collected in one market place. Apprentices are learning this handicraft from masters in this market place. Telkari is the meaning of patience, great effort and attention. We hope that Beypazari will be a successfull example for tarditional handicrafts which are under the danger of being lost in the future.
